Well I'm a little late in writing my review of the Chester concert, but better late than never. I have to start with how I almost wasn't able to make it. I haven't flown in 13 yrs so was unaware that you could check-in online before the flight, believe me I will do that from now on. Security lines were horrible in Chicago, it looked like the whole city was leaving town! I finally make it to the gate to get my boarding pass, well lovely I'm on standby because they over sold the flight! I was flying to Columbus, OH to meet up with my friend Jane, we then were going to drive from Columbus to Chester, which was about 8hrs! Well there I am standing with 2 other people staring at the ticket agent, waiting for her to give us some news. She then points to me to say they are missing 2 people & have to wait 10 minutes before the flight leaves before they can give their seats away! Well 5 mins left here comes of one of the last minute people, she looks at me & says looks like you got the last available seat on the plane & deletes the other passenger! Well he shows up just as she deletes him & says sorry sir I just gave your seat to this young lady! He's trying to explain to her that he wants to give up his seat for the $300, hotel stay & airline voucher they were giving away! Well they are closing the door to the ramp & she yells hold on I have one more passenger! They wouldn't let me bring my bag on the plane, they checked it in because everything was full! I sat down in the last seat in the back ready to just collapse from anxiety! If I didn't make this flight the next one wasn't till the next day, I don't know if I would've been able to make it to the concert!
Well I landed about 5PM & met up with Jane, time to head out to Chester! The weather stunk it was raining & traffic was heavy as it was rush hour. We made it to Bedford, PA which is about the halfway point to Chester & the only town I can remember seeing in a long time! The check-in person says she just had a cancellation & we got the last room! Jane & I couldn't believe that, are timing was perfect! It was after 10PM & I need a drink & food, this was a stressful day to say the least! We drove around this little town for almost 2 hrs to find 1 drink! We went to gas stations, grocery stores...nothing is open or they don't sell alcohol! Found out that the liquor laws in PA are quite different then any other state I've been in! There were 2 dive bars that I had no interest going into! Denny's is the only thing open, I hadn't eaten all day due to the knots in stomach from the day. I did document our travels on FB for those that were home on a Friday night & wanted some entertainment! LOL
Well it's Saturday time to head out to Chester!!! We made good time & made it there by 2PM, so we had a chance to relax & unwind before the concert! We got the hotel shuttle to the casino & met up with Deana, Gina & Deb outside the casino....I then got to meet Sue, Nick, Mary & the famous Hatman inside!
Jane & I were in the 2nd row on Tommy's side (shocking, I know)! We met another couple from Carol Stream, IL which is the suburb next to where I live back home, if I remember correctly this was there 17th concert! We all now how it starts the anticipation builds & you hear the music & here we go!!! The one security dude was like you have to stay by your seats you can't stand by the stage! Not liking that! Well I noticed Tommy & Bruce were letting the security guard know it was okay & to chill! Then Kelly said come on up to the stage!! Woo-Hoo, you don't have to tell me twice!!
The stage was so low & small that they were super close! Love that!! The setlist was the usual & it was played to perfection & had a blast!
I have to also add that with all the anxiety & stress that I had to go through to get to this concert, there was only one thing that would've made me so happy it would've made it all worth while...a hug from my favorite band member (everyone probably knows who that is)! I didn't think it would happen, but a very special friend did me a huge favor & got him a message! I got my hug & it was so sweet for him to do that for me, it made me so HAPPY!!! I got a hug from the sweetest guy on Sweetest Day!!!
Thank you to my BFF & Tommy for making this stressful trip into one of the best trips!! Love ya both!!
Jane & I had an 8 hr drive back to Columbus on Sunday, we spent a lot of time in that rental car! We decided to name it since we were in it for a long drive! We named it Tommy & it was red like a heart! It took us longer to get back to Jane's, there was a major accident in Ohio that had us creeping along for quite awhile, time to look at pics from the concert to pass the time! We finally made it to Jane's & we were hungry, so we decided to eat at Tommy's Pizza! I had on my Tommy Girl shirt, my Tommy bracelet (which was made for me out of Tommy's guitar picks by Sue's daughter Nikki) & we drove in the Tommy car! Was hoping for a Tommy discount on the pizza! LOL
Before I left on Monday for my flight back home, Jane showed me around The Ohio State University. That campus is huge & it was so cool to see! Jane took me to the airport & went in with me so we could talk before I left! We both had a blast meeting so many people & rocking with the nicest guys on the planet! We hugged goodbye & are already saving up for next year's tour!!!
I hope everyone enjoyed my book & hope to meet more friends next year!!!
