The concert began at 9pm and we were lucky for a work day we made it in time due to the fact the 101 is unforgiving and especially so on a Friday. The venue was hot hot hot. Air needed to be turned on stat! I'm surprised the band didn't pass out on stage. They were troopers! It was an odd set up. The Canyon is a banquet hall type setting, so 3/4ths of the concert goers were eating dinner and in communal style dinner seating. The other 1/4th was Standing Room Only. My friend and I got there early enough to stand next to the security guard who all night kept shooing away people trying to hone in on the front and abstruct our view. Highlights- Fire Dept came in to see if the max occupancy was a fire hazard or not. As the fire dept assessed the venue, they found it to be safe, needless to say the manager/owner was estatic! He actually kissed one of the guards after Fire Dept left. We were close to the bar and got to witness a bar brawl where a large gentleman was escorted out all bloodied up.....his friends followed.
The band is very professional, because this was quite a venue with lots of disadvantages. Kelly, during Cold as Ice literally walked on the dinner table in the middle row and ate off of someones plate, apologized for knocking over someones beer and the crowd went WILD!!!
Once the diners had digested their meal around Juke Box Hero.....they were up and doing air guitar and high fiving one another. The heat was getting to the band. Tom, played the Urgent solo masterfully. He was praised by the audience with shouts and standing ovations! Michael Bluestein was back in full force and did a solo beautifully and the audience was moved by Kelly's remarks about his courageous battle.
All in all it was an eventful night. Lots of energy. Lots of cray cray. We asked our 20 something security guard if he knew any of the songs half way through the concert.....he replied. "no" Then during I Want to Know What Love Is.....he looks over at us and say "I know this song.....I love this song!!" Folks, another FOREIGNER fan is born.
