Foreigner 2013 - My year in review
« on: January 14, 2014, 04:52:03 pm »
2013 was the best year in my life as a Foreigner fan. I went to fifteen shows on two continents, three countries and
four states. The year started out in January with a show at the Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood Florida. In March,  I
saw two shows at Casino Rama north of Toronto. In June, there were shows at Citi Field in New York and the Golden
Nugget in Atlantic City. In July, a show at Summerfest in Milwaukee and seven shows in Germany. In August, a show
in New Lenox Illinois and the final show of the year in November in Naperville Illinois.I did not count the Song
Writers Hall of Fame induction ceremony or the Fox and Friends appearence the band made the next day.
I know there are other hard core fans like me that attended many more shows last year than I did, and I commend them.
Keeping up with work and family obligations make getting to more shows a big challenge.
There are a few things I want to state my opinions about.
1. There are a few people that post on this forum who constantly criticize Kelly and Mick. Kelly does a great job
performing the songs and he makes every live show enjoyable. Although he probably irritates some people that refuse
to stand during the shows, but a rock concert is an event. Those people can sit when they go to the opera. This is
Mick's band, he can do what ever he wants with it.  .
2. Everyone wishes the band would put out a new album. I just don't see that happening. There is no outlet for
classic rock as far as recording is concerned. The money is made with live shows.
3. The set list has to change. These greatest hits shows leave us diehard fans wanting more. Even the new songs
are not being performed.
There will be alot of shows in 2014. I hope Mick will be well enough to be at all of them. There is a real magic on
stage when he is there. I look forward to seeing you at the shows this year. If we have never met, please come over
and say hello
The biggest Foreigner fan of all time.

I respect anyones feelings in regards to music. Its not a science and WE all have our opinions and feelings.

Im not a Kelly vs Lou guy because that would be laughable.

One guy wrote and sang all of Foreigners songs and is considered to be one of the best singers in history.

The other guy was in a c list band and was hired to replace the replacement (Johnny Edwards). Kelly has a nice voice I have always stated but he's turning hard rock songs into soft pop rock versions. And women like that so I understand them liking him

So its laughable.

No chance at new album. This version of Foreigner doesnt have the Lou/Mick thing. Cant slow down was a complete failure so I doubt they try agaian.

The set list will never change. Money money money is all that matters to these guys.

No passion whatsoever.

Lou is 63 and has more passion than the entire Foreigner part 10 version. These are karaoke band mates getting paid for playing someone elses songs. Lous songs

Are you ok with some of th low handed things Mick supposedly has done??

Are you ok with 2013 Foreigner marketing all their concerts with Lou's vocals? Or do you also see this as major false advertising like most of the world does?

I have respect for you man. You're dedicated thats for sure

David,

Nice write up.

You had a great adventure with Foreigner during 2013.

Enjoyed hanging with you in New Jersey & New York in June at the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Fox & Friends & at Citi Field.

Keep us informed of your travels to see Foreigner during 2014

I second what Tatjana said, excellent write-up David, and I agree with all of your points.

I would love to see the set list change, even just a little.  I love the "greatest hits" however it certainly wouldn't hurt to mix in a bit of the deeper stuff. These guys have been together for a heck of a long time and they have proven time and time again that they are incredibly talented musicians that are more than capable to deliver.

I would love to see Tramontane performed. Oh boy, is that an instrumental masterpiece or what?

I hope this year to be able to reconnect with many of you that I have been fortunate to meet in various states near and far over the years, and HOPEFULLY, get across the pond to Germany one day to meet Tatjana and be a part of the Germany Gang part 4! (Is it up to 4 now?!?!)

I hear you regarding the set list, Nick.

It would be fantastic if you'd come to Germany or maybe I'm able one day to get over the pond. :-D

Yes, I guess it would be "GGIV" already. :)

Thanks for sharing your experiences! Hoping they play another show in PA! Lancaster, PA is sold out! Any word on other shows in this area?

So, 1968, what is your goal here?  Do you want Mick to round up the original members and put together an album? A tour?  Other than Lou and Ian McD -- I don't know that the others are even in the music biz.  Dennis Elliot retired -- but often steps in as a guest drummer  on Hot Blooded when Foreigner plays in his home area.  Ian McD and Al Greenwood have attended shows in NY and have been given shout outs.
Foreigner plays well over 150 shows a year on their tours.  Lou has stated in several interviews that he only plays on select weekends so he can be home with his family.   The All Access DVD is the last with Mick and Lou together -- all I can say about that...

You know the reality is that could not happen.  The current band members are all excellent musicians who put on excellent live shows and can handle the touring.  They hit the stage fresh and full of enthusiasm every night!!  Not sure how you think Kelly's voice is soft?  He has a deeper voice than Lou -- certainly not soft!  Passion is his forte when singing.

No one on this forum is taking anything away from Lou!!!!  He and Mick wrote amazing and iconic rock hits that hold up beautifully today!  The Songwriter Hall of Fame apparently thinks so -- as they inducted both of them this year!  Most of us go out and see Lou and his band on occasion.

Foreigner has always been and will always be the band Mick put together -- that's it!  All bands go through changes -- just watch "The History of the Eagles" for some insight into why and how members come and go with a band.  Quite interesting.

So -- I was just curious what your goal for Foreigner would be?
