Soundtrack of Summer: Haunted Houses & the World Cup
Foreigner is spending this summer thrilling audiences across the country on the ‘Soundtrack of Summer‘ tour alongside fellow rock legends Styx and Don Felder. Ultimate Classic Rock be getting weekly updates from the road courtesy of Mick Jones‘ assistant Tim Hare. In this fifth installment, Hare talks about visiting a haunted house and watching the World Cup with the rest of the band.
Friendship is a peculiar concept and it comes in all forms, but nothing says summer like spending the waning hours with your friends. On my recent trip to my hometown, Boston, for Foreigner’s Blue Hills Pavilion show, I was out with a few friends catching up, laughing, and lamenting that our time together was slipping by. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and enjoy going to work everyday, but that doesn’t mean we don’t miss our friends back home.
I’ve always had a soft spot for haunted houses and old monster movies. When you are growing up, it’s not a very cool subject to be interested in, but things that are spooky in nature have always made me feel like a kid again. So it was with great glee when I found out there was a haunted house called Tagsylvania attached to the stage in Big Flats, N.Y. where Foreigner performed. I took a fellow enthusiast and took some photos of the prosthetics and homemade monsters. It’s something you will want to check out, if you are ever visiting Big Flats.
For those of you who read my second blog where I mentioned that Mick and I had a secret competition to be the best-looking guys on tour…well, the cat is out of the bag. Kelly Hansen, our leader and my blog’s biggest fan, told the rest of the boys about it, and now the competition is really heating up. Every time I head out to grab some sun, I see the Foreigner boys hogging all the good spots. Dirty looks are usually shot my way as everyone jockeys for the “Lookin’ Good, Feelin’ Good” award. Chris Frazier has us beat in the gym department and Thom has the best tan going do far. The rest of the guys are doing their best to keep up. I’ll keep you posted on how it progresses. A little sabotage may be in order!
One spot where we have come together is watching Team U.S.A. in the World Cup. Mick is a huge fan and Kelly’s dad helped grow the sport in Southern California. We have to explain some of the nuances to the games to our uninitiated members, but it’s been a blast getting into the action with everyone. We celebrate the goals for and lament the goals against and enjoy it all the same. GO U.S.A.!
In the meantime…Keep dancin’, Juke Box Heroes…
