The famous will meet the local on Friday, Sept. 27.

When Foreigner takes the stage at the Divots DeVent Center, it will be joined by members of the Norfolk High School choir.

“It’s a really cool feeling when we get to see the sheer joy that comes across the kids’ faces,” Foreigner member Tom Gimbel told the Daily News in a phone interview this week.

A strong advocate for music education, Foreigner will donate $500 to the Norfolk choir for helping the rock band sing “I Want To Know What Love Is.”

“Music education is a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts,” Gimbel said.

In addition to the joint performance, the choir will sell Foreigner CDs at the event to raise money for Foreigner’s charity partner, The Grammy Foundation. All of the proceeds from the CD sales will be donated to the group’s cause.

“We were so lucky to have music in the classroom, and that is a huge part of our foundation,” Gimbel said. “We want to do our part to keep those opportunities alive.”

Aside from the special rendition, Gimbel said those in attendance can look forward to a high-energy atmosphere.

“It’s not going to be a sit back and relax type gig,” he said. “Our singer (Kelly Hansen) tries to interact as much as possible. We want people to lose their inhibitions and be part of the show.”

With classic songs such as “Hot Blooded,” “Feels Like The First Time” and “Juke Box Hero,” it should be easy for crowds to get caught up in the concert.

“People should expect to stand up, clap and yell,” Gimbel said. “We don’t leave out the hits.”

With 10 multi-platinum albums and 16 top 30 singles, Foreigner — which was founded in 1976 — has stood the test of time.

“We feel fortunate and are grateful to have had support over so many years,” Gimbel said. “That’s what keeps us going. We know we would have nothing without it.”
