Lonsdale Area News Review: High School Choir and Foreigner Lead Singer Hold Fund Raiser at New Prague Ford
It was not the usual routine weekday evening in New Prague. On Oct. 5, hundreds of people stopped into New Prague Ford for a very special event – the Drive 4UR School fundraiser for the music department at New Prague High School, featuring a chance to meet Kelly Hansen, the lead singer of the rock band Foreigner.
The event became possible when the high school choir, directed by teacher Ryan Uttech, won a singing contest on 92 KQRS to be “Rock Stars for a Day.” Their prize? In addition to the chance to sing backup for Foreigner and receive $1,000 for the music department, they also won Monday’s special event giving the community a chance to raise even more money for the music department. Each time a vehicle was test driven, $20 was donated to the music programs by Ford.
Hundreds came out to hear the high school choir rehearse Foreigner’s classic hit “I Want to Know What Love Is” for the evening concert with the band. Hansen then greeted crowds, signed autographs and had his picture taken with fans before he had to leave for to get ready for the concert at the Xcel Energy Center.
Word was out about the singing and signing event, and several media outlets were on hand to record it. Camera crews, newscasters, radio stations and newspaper reporters were all intermixed with the community members and families from New Prague Schools.
